Spouses and children have the right to file a wrongful death claim in Washington. Adopted children are considered the same as natural born children. Other family members that may be able to file a claim for wrongful death include brothers and sisters on behalf of their siblings and grandparents.
If a person dies without any of the above named people in his or her life, it can be significantly more difficult to pursue a claim. This is because statutory beneficiaries have the right to pursue the claim.
